{new project | celebrating survivors}

I’m sure that you all know someone that has battled breast cancer. Some have won, some have lost, and some are still fighting. I’ve had several friends fight the fight at various stages, and I am thankful to say that I haven’t had to say goodbye to any of them.

The grim reality of this awful disease hit me two years ago when one of my friends from church was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer at age 30. Thirty. I was 29 at the time. She had a husband. She had two young kids, about the same age as my own. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. My heart ached for her and her family and everything she was going through. Despite having had friends that had gone through this before, none of them hit as close to home as it did this time.

It was awful watching her go through everything to fight this disease. But man, she fought hard…and she WON. She is still the mother to two beautiful kids, wife to a gorgeous husband, and still one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. (You rock, Mary!)

Back when she was diagnosed, I had the idea that I would love to honor those that have fought breast cancer and won – represent them photographically, tell their story, and put it all into a book. It’s been two years since I had the idea and I’ve finally hashed out all of the details.

I want to create an art book featuring portraits of these amazing fighters. I want to tell their stories in pictures and in words. I have recruited professional storyteller, Kindra Hall, to tell the stories of these women (and men if I can find any!), their fight, and their triumph for the book.

I want to use this book to raise awareness and raise money to find a cure. I will spend the next year putting the book together and will then be selling them and donating 100% of the profits to the cause in October 2011.

So I need your help. If you are a survivor of breast cancer (or know someone who is), and would like to participate in this project, please contact me to learn how to get involved. Those featured in the book will get a complimentary portrait session as well as a copy of the book.

I can also use sponsors to help fund the cost of the project, so if you’re interested, please let me know how you would like to be involved.

I look forward to working on this and hope that you will enjoy the final product!

what do you CRAVE?

I could not be more excited right now.

You see, I’ve been following The CRAVE Company for some time now, ever since I saw Kelly Beth (whom I attend DCC with) tagged in a photo at one of their parties a few months back. I’ll be honest. I was green with envy. And I drooled a little bit. Okay, a LOT. I only wished I could have been at that party – everything looked so incredibly amazing and fun. So I had to check it out and see what CRAVE was all about.

Turns out, it’s a group of incredibly awesome female entrepreneurs in major metropolitan areas around the country. So I did what any girl would do – I hopped on Twitter and started following the three cities that are most relevant to me: Denver, Seattle and Phoenix to see what was going on. Then I learned about the CRAVE guide. So I asked about it, and immediately got a call back from Mia, who heads up the Denver chapter.

Long story short, I decided with that one phone call to jump in with both feet. I could not be more excited. So look for me in the book come December. And if you are a woman who owns her own business in one of these areas, I encourage you to check it out.

back to school special

I can’t believe it’s already that time again – the neighborhood is bustling with kids walking to the school bus in the mornings. It’s only a few weeks before those leaves start to turn now. To celebrate a new school year, I am offering a special through August 31st.

The nitty-gritty: reservation must be made by August 31st. Session date must be prior to October 15, 2010. Payment is due in full at the time of booking. Due to the nature of a mini-session, all sessions are limited to six people. If you need a session for a larger group, please book a regular portrait session.

Please note that I will be in Colorado from September 15-21st, and I am happy to book sessions during that time as my schedule allows.

Book now by clicking here!

Session Special through July 31st!

We all know the economy’s been a little tough on us, and affording such simple luxuries as professional portraits have been ousted for more important things, like new clothes to wear to that job interview. For some, it hasn’t been so bad – for others, it’s been worse. While it might be easy to be diligent about scheduling regular family portraits, sometimes it’s hard to be able to afford all the prints and fun products you’d like to splurge on when the budget is trimmed down.

So from now through July 31st, ALL sessions booked will receive the full amount of the session fee in product credit! Interested in a collection instead? Great! The full amount of the collection price is yours in product credit!

To see our variety of sessions and collections and book your appointment, click here.

Colorado clients, I will be in Denver from September 15-21st and will have 8 sessions available that week.

The fine print: All sessions must be scheduled for a date prior to September 30, 2010. A $50 retainer fee is due at the time of booking.

announcements!

I admit I have been HORRIBLE about blogging and keeping my wonderful fans in the know about what’s happening at Eunice Brownlee Photography. Problem is, so much is going on that it’s hard to know where to start.

So let’s start with a few announcements!

First thing’s first — the show at Il Posto is still happening. It’s just postponed, thanks to a small personal crisis that left me unable to make it to Denver on time. I know, nice of me to tell you ten days late. It’s been a crazy month and I’m actually relieved that it’s over. I’m sorry for the delay, but the show will open on July 16th and I hope to see you there.

Secondly, I promised a portrait special, so here it is! For all portrait sessions booked now through July 31st, you will receive the entire session amount in product credit. Session dates may be booked through September 30th. To set up your portrait session, click here.

Denver fans – I will be in Denver September 15-21st, so if you’re interested in booking a session, please let me know right away! Only 8 sessions are available.  Book now.

There are still a few spaces available for 2011 senior models. If you’re interested in getting the most out of your senior portrait experience, contact me for more information.

Lastly, the big re-design/re-brand project is fully underway. I’m really excited to pull everything together in the next few months.

There is a lot more going on, but with the J.O.B. and summer school, it’s been tough to keep up. More to come soon!

excuse the dust

please bear with me as I work on upgrading the theme on my web site. the appearance will be funky for a bit, but I promise, the content is all good.

when creativity collides.

You all know how much Sarah Noel and I love a good contest! Recently, after much brainstorming for a new series, I was struck with an idea – why not incorporate the multitude of talented writers that participate in the Musings blog into a piece somehow? Better yet, why not make it a contest (since we love to see people win stuff!)? So here it is — a haiku writing contest!

What, exactly, is haiku? It’s a Japanese form of poetry that has 17 “moras” or syllables. In English, we separate these syllables into three lines of 5, 7, 5 syllables, respectively. They typically contain a seasonal reference as well. Check out the image above, that’s a haiku I wrote about the contest.

What does Japanese poetry have to do with photography, you ask? During one of my favorite photography classes, we were given a haiku and asked to interpret it using our cameras. I loved the assignment and would love to do it again! Sure, I could Google ‘summer haiku’ and come up with hundreds, I’m sure. But that’s no fun and there would be no prizes!

If any of you have experienced the insane winter weather (clear through spring) like we did here in Flagstaff, you can empathize with how ready for summer I am. I’d like to see 70 degree days for a consecutive week. Is that too much to ask? Let’s drown our winter blues with some summery creativity!

The contest:

To help us get into the spirit of summer, I want to see your best summer themed haiku!

To enter, email your haiku to me here at eunice@eunicebrownlee.com by May 10th at midnight, PDT.

I will post all entries here on the blog on May 12th for the readers to vote for their favorite haiku. Voting will be open from May 12th-15th.

The prizes:

Top ten picks - Your haiku will become a photograph! I will take each haiku and attempt to interpret it photographically. I will send you a fine art print of your haiku to enjoy.

Top five picks – The photographs and haiku will be displayed at Il Posto starting June 21st (the first day of summer)! Il Posto is an Italian restaurant in Metro Denver where I currently have my photography on display.  It’s time for a new series to hang and this project will be it! All writing credits will be given to the respective authors.

Top pick – The poem with the most votes will win this fabulous journal starter e-book from Imaginibbles (you know you want it).(image retreived here)

This prize was chosen to help benefit the Dream Big Promise that Imaginibbles is sponsoring. For every item purchased, Imaginibbles is donating one Life Straw® to a third world country in need of clean drinking water. They have several great items designed to unleash your creative power. Please check out the other items they have to offer and shop around, won’t you?

back on the grid.

I realize that it’s been several weeks since I’ve posted anything, but many factors have contributed to me being MIA recently – a bunch of family stuff that came up suddenly, and then a major technology fail. My archaic computer took a dump and one can only spend so much time on a BlackBerry.

I’m really excited to get back to blogging – I’ve had a couple of sessions that I am eager to post and share with you, plus some announcements for spring mini sessions and travel dates.
