When Torie first called me to schedule a portrait session with me, she told me that she and her son were actors and needed some new headshots. I wasn’t expecting to have such a blast with this lovely lady and her little man.

As we shot, I learned that he was in the process of directing a movie himself! Wow. Such talent.

{READ TO ME | professionals}

Let me just start out by saying how much I love Rebecca Erickson. She is made up of 100% amazing in every way. So it’s no surprise that her organization, READ TO ME::Colorado is also full of amazing. I was so honored to shoot these photos for their web site update.

Stack of books

READ TO ME is a local non-profit that provides an awesome “goody bag” to new, low-income families. The most important of which is a book. Through the years, Rebecca has learned that many families bring their babies home to a house with no books. As an avid reader and book lover, the idea of this is just foreign to me. Rebecca saw a need, however, and began to provide books to these families.

We all know that reading to our children from an early age helps to promote literacy, and part of READ TO ME’s goal is to help in that respect. But Rebecca also talks about how just taking the time to snuggle your new baby, in the time it takes to read a book, provides a priceless bonding opportunity with that child. I think her message is pretty awesome: Snuggle your baby and read.

I first “met” Rebecca on Twitter, actually (so for those of you that think Twitter is a dumb waste of time, please take note!). I had put out a call to local non-profits to submit an application to be the beneficiary of the art show and wine tasting that I put on for my church each year. She was referred by a fellow CRAVE business to respond, and she did! As I talked to her about her organization, I immediately fell in love with her. We put on a fabulous show in April and raised a good chunk of money for READ TO ME.

This summer, Rebecca was one of the winners of the Pepsi Refresh $5,000 grant. That money will go a long way towards helping her reach more families and provide more books. Her reach continues to spread, with a feature blurb in this month’s issue of Parent’s Magazine as well. See? I told you Rebecca is made of awesome!

I also want to continue to work with READ TO ME, so I am proud to announce that they will be one of my featured charity partners through 2012. I will be running a variety of portrait specials throughout the next year and a half  to help raise money for them, so keep your eyes open.

The day is finally here!! I could not be more excited to announce Denver’s newest wedding and event planning service ~ Pink Champagne. I had the privilege of shooting Jessica’s headshots in November and I could not be more excited for her new business venture.

Jessica and I met in 2005 while working out at what was then Canterberry Golf Course, now Black Bear. Jessica and I were co-banquet managers, overseeing all of the golf tournaments, weddings and events that took place at the facility. I remember when I first met her, she had such an extensive knowledge on banquets that I was shocked to find out that she was younger than I am. She was attending Johnson and Wales University, pursuing a degree in event management, and graduated a couple of years later.

One afternoon, while we were taking a break between events, we were chatting and I learned that her stepbrother was one of my good friends in college! What a small world it really is. A couple years later, we both went our seperate ways, but we remained close friends. Jessica was present when my daughter was born, and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding.

Among several of our thousands of conversations about the future, Jessica shared with me her dream of owning her own event planning business someday and I shared with her my dream of being a full-time photographer. We have continued to encourage each other through the years and I am so excited that we are both at the point of watching our dreams come true.

Jessica has personally planned hundreds of events and gives each one her unique spin. At Pink Champagne it is understood that each event is as unique as its host. By working with several vendors in the Denver area for corporate and private events, Pink Champagne assists in bringing your unique vision to life.

Contact Jessica today!

As a special bonus, I am offering an album upgrade to the first five brides who book both Pink Champagne and Eunice Brownlee Photography for your wedding.

{allyson porter daley | professionals}

Mixed media artist Allyson Porter Daley can take some credit for my finding a path to a career as an artist – she gave me the genes.  Ever since I was a little girl, she was creating something – paintings, photographs, scrapbook pages, quilts, clothes, jewelry – I could really go on and on for days.

That brightly colored creation in the background is just one of the many beautiful quilts she’s created. She’s so multi-talented and I’m proud to have her as my momma. It’s amazing, really, how many things she’s good at.

A few weeks ago, we were eating dinner and my 4 year old daughter says out of the blue, “When I grow up, I want to be a quilter, like Nana.” I about started bawling. It was the sweetest thing ever. And impressive too, given that I do not have my mother’s penchant for sewing — I don’t even sew buttons back on when they fall off.

Allyson has a variety of items that she has created for sale – they make great gifts and are one-of-a-kind! So be sure to check out her web site at www.allysonsart.com and do a little early Christmas shopping. And check back often, because she’s always putting new things up for sale. And don’t forget to like her on Facebook to keep apprised of the newest creations!

{shari | blossoming}

Shari and I met up in a park in Lakewood to shoot her business portraits for her company, Blossoming. She really wanted shots out in nature, because she wanted to reflect not only her love of nature, but the fact that the form of therapy she practices truly is “all natural.” As we walked through the park, we talked and laughed, and she shared with me some of the new developments her business is taking.

For someone who seems to hate having her picture taken, she was a great subject. As we shot frame after frame, I witnessed a common transformation in many portrait sessions: stiff and uncomfortable to soft and relaxed. As a photographer, I enjoy fostering that level of trust and ease so that a person’s true essence can shine through.

In her line of work, Shari often sees a similar transformation in the clients she works with. When they come to her, they can be closed off, unsure, or hurt. She helps people to bloom, to open up, to let their inner self glow. Shari is a personal transformation specialist.

When most people hear the word “hypnosis,” they think of a magic show act that gets a pretty girl up on stage clucking like a chicken against her will. They imagine someone using “mind control” to manipulate someone into doing things they would not ordinarily do.

Used therapeutically, hypnosis is a powerful tool to overcome the conscious mind and help a person to become a better version of themselves, whether it be to quit smoking, lose weight, or simply deal with emotional issues that are difficult to face.

So rather than calling herself a hypnotherapist, Shari Gordon has titled herself “Chief Blossomer.” Shari uses a variety of techniques to teach people how to become the best version of themselves. She hosts a series of classes called “Project Blossom” and is available for private sessions as well. She can be reached at 303-570-5661, or you can email her.

If you would like to hear some of my own personal experiences with hypnosis under Shari’s guidance, please feel free to email me.

The rest of her portrait session can be found here.

{allyson | artist}

I have recently had the pleasure of becoming the official photographer for artist Allyson Porter Daley. Allyson is a mixed-media artist in Northern Arizona. She has a variety of items that she creates and sells, and all of her work can be found at http://www.allysonsart.com/.
